Common Causes
Door not fully pushed closed (most common). Sagging hinge preventing full engagement. Foreign object in the door seal preventing closure. Failed hall-effect sensor on premium models.
Diagnosis
- Open the door and inspect the seal area for trapped items.
- Close the door firmly. Listen for the latch click.
- If the latch clicks but E40 persists, the lock switch or hall sensor has failed.
