What Is the Risk?#

The oven burner igniter can be slow to initiate ignition, allowing gas to accumulate in the oven cavity for 3-5 seconds before igniting. When the accumulated gas ignites, it produces a flash of flame that can exit through the oven door seal, causing burns. BSH received 16 reports of delayed ignition and 4 reports of minor burns.

This is a critical safety hazard. If your Bosch oven/range is affected, take immediate action as described below. Do not delay — gas leaks can lead to explosion, fire, or carbon monoxide exposure. CPSC recall remedies are always free — there is no reason to postpone.

• The repair, replacement, or refund is completely free — you pay nothing for parts or labor.
• You do not need the original receipt for CPSC recalls. The model and serial number are sufficient to verify eligibility.
• The recall applies regardless of whether you are the original purchaser. Second owners, tenants, and landlords are all eligible.
• CPSC recalls never expire. Even if this recall was announced years ago, you can still get the free repair if your unit was never serviced.

What causes delayed ignition in a gas oven?#

Delayed ignition occurs when the igniter does not reach ignition temperature quickly enough after the gas valve opens. Gas flows into the oven cavity at 0.5-1.0 cubic feet per hour; even a 3-second delay can accumulate enough gas for a visible flash. Causes include a weak igniter (not reaching the 2,500 degree F threshold), incorrect gas pressure, or a misaligned igniter position relative to the burner port.
