What Is the Risk?#

The wire connector at the surface element terminal can develop a high-resistance connection, causing localized overheating. The connector can reach ignition temperature even when the burner is on low. Samsung received 38 reports of overheating and 8 fires.

Can an electric range burner cause a fire on its lowest setting?#

Yes, if the connector has a high-resistance defect. The heat is generated at the faulty connection point, not at the burner coil. Even on the lowest setting, current flows through the damaged connector, generating enough heat to ignite wire insulation and surrounding materials. This is why this recall is classified as critical — the defect operates independently of the burner temperature setting.
