Thermador Gas Stove Uneven Flame: Causes & Fix

What a good Thermador flame looks like#

A healthy sealed burner shows an even ring of tight blue cones, with the low simmer setting holding a steady small flame all the way around. Tall yellow or orange tips mean too little air and unburnt gas; a flame that lifts and roars means too much air. A dead patch in the ring is a blocked port, not an electrical fault.

Common causes on a sealed burner#

• Blocked ports. Boil-overs and grease plug the slots around the burner head, so the flame skips those spots. This is the leading cause.
• A cap off its seat. Thermador's star cap has to drop squarely onto the head; nudged during cleaning, it throws the ring lopsided and can smother the simmer.
• A drifted air shutter. The shutter that meters air into the burner tube can move, tipping the flame yellow or making it lift.
• A partly fouled orifice. The brass jet metering gas can carbon up and starve one burner against the rest.
• Wrong fuel setup. A burner jetted for the wrong gas — natural versus propane — burns yellow or lifts across the whole cooktop.

Clean it properly#

With the burner cold, take off the star cap and head and soak them in warm soapy water. Clear each port with a straightened paper clip — never a wooden pick that can break off inside — then dry both pieces fully so leftover water does not cause a separate clicking problem. Seat the head on its pins and drop the cap flat and centred. If an even blue ring returns, you are done; if it still runs yellow or lazy, the shutter or orifice needs a technician's adjustment.

An uneven burner shows up worst when a heavy pot needs steady, even heat for a holiday meal. Pull the caps and clear the ports now so every burner runs a clean blue flame before the busy days. If a burner stays yellow after a thorough clean, book a visit and a technician will set the air shutter, orifice, and regulator.
