LG Oven Switch Replacement: Door Light
"Switch" on an LG range usually means one of three things — the door light switch, the oven safety interlock, or a cooktop infinite burner switch — and a burner stuck on high is the classic sign of a welded infinite switch. A multimeter continuity test sorts out which one.
Which switch you're after depends on whether the symptom is at the oven door or a cooktop burner.
The switches on an LG range#
- Door light switch — a plunger in the door frame that turns on the interior light when the door opens, and on some models feeds a signal to the board.
- Oven safety interlock — on some LG ovens, a separate switch that cuts the bake and broil elements when the door is open. Not every model has one; many rely on the door latch instead.
- Cooktop infinite switch — controls an electric burner's heat by cycling power on and off at a variable duty; each burner has its own. When it fails, the burner either runs full-blast regardless of the knob or doesn't heat at all.
- Selector switch — the old rotary bake/broil/clean control; modern LG ranges use a touchpad instead.

Replacing the door light switch#
The door switch sits in the oven door frame. On a freestanding range you reach it from behind after removing the back panel; on a wall oven you may have to pull the oven from the cabinet. Disconnect the 2-wire connector, release the clip or screw, fit the new switch (LG 6600JB3001E), and test by opening and closing the door to see the light toggle.

Replacing an infinite burner switch#
- Disconnect power — the cooktop runs on a 240V circuit.
- Pull the cooktop knobs and remove the back or control panel to reach the switches.
- Each infinite switch has several terminals (typically 4–5 wires); photograph them.
- Remove the mounting screws, fit the new switch (LG EBF62174902), and reconnect the wires exactly as photographed.
- Turn that burner to medium and confirm it cycles on and off rather than running continuously.
Tools: Phillips #2, a multimeter, and a 1/4-inch nut driver for the infinite-switch mounting on some models.

A burner welded on full power is a real hazard — it keeps the element at maximum no matter the knob, so replace that switch promptly rather than living with it. To find which infinite switch feeds a given burner, follow the knob shaft: each knob drives one switch, and they're usually laid out in the same order as the knobs on the panel. An always-on oven light is more nuisance than danger, but it wastes power and adds a little heat to the cavity, so a stuck door light switch is worth the quick swap too. These are simple mechanical parts that usually last many years: an infinite switch that fails is almost always worn out by the heat and current of the burner it cycles, while the door and light switches wear from the door's thousands of open-close cycles rather than from heat.
