LG Oven Switch Replacement — Door, Light, and Burner Switches
LG ovens and ranges contain several types of switches, each requiring different diagnosis and replacement approaches. The most commonly replaced are the door light switch, the oven safety switch, and the infinite burner switches on the cooktop.
Switch Types
Oven door switch (light switch): Activates the interior light when you open the door, and on some models provides a safety signal to the board. Usually a plunger switch in the door frame.
Oven safety interlock switch: On some LG models, a separate switch that disables the bake and broil elements when the door is open. Not all LG ovens have this — many rely on the door latch system instead.
Cooktop infinite burner switch: Controls the temperature of electric cooktop elements by cycling power on and off at variable duty cycles. Each burner has its own infinite switch. When one fails, that burner runs on full power regardless of the knob setting, or does not work at all.
Selector switch (older models): Mechanical rotary switch for bake/broil/clean selection. Modern LG ovens use touchpad or touchscreen controls instead.

Door Switch Replacement
The door switch is located in the oven door frame. On freestanding ranges, access it from behind by removing the back panel. On wall ovens, you may need to remove the oven from the cabinet. Disconnect the 2-wire connector, remove the mounting clip or screw, install the new switch. Test by opening and closing the door — the light should toggle.
The Real Cost of DIY
Average DIY attempt: $150-400 in tools you may use once, plus the risk of further damage. Our diagnostic visit costs $0 — we find the problem and give you an honest quote.

Infinite Switch Replacement
Disconnect power (240V). Remove the cooktop knobs and the back panel or control panel to access the infinite switches. Each switch has multiple wire terminals (typically 4-5 wires). Photograph the wire positions before disconnecting. Remove the switch mounting screws, install the new switch, reconnect wires exactly as photographed. Test by turning the burner to medium — it should cycle on and off, not run continuously.
Frequently Asked Questions
My LG cooktop burner runs on high no matter where I turn the knob. Is the switch bad?
Yes — the infinite switch contacts are welded closed, keeping the element on full power. Replace the switch for that burner ($20-$55). This is a safety concern — a stuck-on burner can overheat cookware.
Can I replace just the oven light switch if my light stays on?
Yes. The door light switch is a simple and inexpensive part ($10-$35). An always-on oven light wastes electricity and can heat up the cavity slightly.
How do I know which infinite switch controls which burner?
Follow the knob shaft — each knob connects to a specific switch. The switches are usually arranged in the same order as the knobs on the control panel.
