LG DLE3470/DLG3471 Budget Dryer
The most common LG DLE3470 failure is a blown thermal fuse — about 30% of repairs — which leaves the dryer completely dead and almost always traces to a clogged exhaust vent.
The DLE3470 is LG's budget dryer line, with the DLG3471 as its gas twin: reliable basics with a few predictable wear items. Here are the covered models, the recurring failures, the codes, the parts, and a repair-or-replace line.

Common problems for this model#
| Rank | Failure | Share of repairs |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Thermal fuse blown — dryer completely dead | 30% |
| 2 | Belt frays — squeals, then snaps | 25% |
| 3 | Lint-filter housing cracks | 20% |
| 4 | Gas valve coils weaken — intermittent heat on the gas DLG3471 | 15% |
| 5 | Drum light stops working | 10% |
Error codes#
- Error D80 — check the exhaust duct
- Error D90 — check the exhaust duct
- Error TE1 — temperature sensor
For an unlisted code, unplug or trip the breaker for 60 seconds and restore power; a returning code needs a diagnosis.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Gas dryers carry carbon monoxide and explosion risk. Even electric dryers involve 240V circuits that can deliver a fatal shock. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Repair or replace?#
These basic dryers are very economical to keep going. For the DLE3470: under 12 years old with a fix below 50% of a comparable new dryer, repair. After 12 years, weigh recent costs — once repairs over the last 2-3 years exceed 40% of replacement, replace. The thermal fuse and belt are the most common and the cheapest repairs of all.
Maintenance#
Clean the lint filter before every load — it is the number-one prevention for thermal-fuse failure — and clean the exhaust vent to the exterior once a year, since a restricted exhaust vent is the number one cause of both poor drying performance and dryer fires. Inspect the belt yearly for glazing or fraying, never force the lint filter into a cracked housing (replace the duct instead), and on the gas DLG3471 have the gas-valve coils tested around the 5-year mark.
Don't Void Your Warranty

FAQ#
Why does my DLE3470 keep blowing the thermal fuse?#
A fuse that blows repeatedly means the dryer is overheating, most often from a clogged exhaust vent, but sometimes a failed cycling thermostat or a heating element grounding to the drum housing. Clean the entire vent run and fix the underlying cause alongside the fuse, or the replacement will blow again.
How do I tell if the belt is going bad?#
Watch for squealing during the tumble (belt glazing), the drum stopping intermittently (slipping), or a burning-rubber smell, and inspect the belt for glazed spots, cracks, or frayed edges. Replace it proactively at the first sign, since a sudden snap can overheat the motor before you notice the drum has stopped.
The lint-filter housing is cracked — can I keep using it?#
Do not force the filter into a cracked housing, since gaps let lint bypass the screen and reach the blower and vent. Replace the lint-filter duct (MJH62618801); it is an inexpensive part and prevents an airflow and fire problem down the line.
