Why does my MGD7230 heat then stop heating?#

That is the gas-valve-coil signature: the igniter lights and the coils open the gas valve, but after 5-10 minutes the weakened coils can no longer hold it open, so the flame goes out and the drum tumbles cold, then repeats. Replace both coils as a set (part 279834) — it is the most common gas-dryer repair and one of the cheapest.

What does the Extra Power button do?#

Extra Power extends the drying cycle and holds heat longer to finish loads that come out slightly damp on Normal, so it is handy for bulky or heavy fabrics. It works on any cycle, but it adds about 15-20 minutes and uses more gas, so save it for the loads that need it.

Does the 10-year warranty cover the gas valve?#

No — the 10-year limited parts warranty covers only the drum and drive motor, not the gas valve, igniter, coils, belt, rollers, or electronics, which fall under the standard 1-year parts and labor coverage. After year one a coil replacement is out of pocket, but it is among the least expensive dryer repairs.
