Frigidaire Dishwasher: Replacing Control Board

Bottom line: Random cycle behavior, dead buttons, or a Frigidaire dishwasher that runs forever without advancing usually points at a failed control board — but only after the cheaper door latch, thermal fuse, and ribbon cable are ruled out. The swap is an intermediate-to-advanced 35-45 minute job that hinges on photographing every connector first.

Disconnect power at the circuit breaker and wait 60 seconds before accessing the board. Capacitors on the board may retain charge briefly after power is cut. Handle the new board by the edges only. Static discharge can damage electronic components.

Step by step#

1. Disconnect power and confirm#

Turn off the breaker, open the lower access panel (kick plate, two Phillips screws), and confirm power is off at the junction box with a voltage tester. This is not optional — working on a live board risks shock and will destroy the new board if you short a connection during installation.

2. Remove the inner door panel#

Open the door fully and remove the ten Torx T15 screws around the inner door liner, keeping them together (they are all one size on Frigidaire). Lift the inner panel away from the outer door, minding the door gasket that may be attached to it.

3. Photograph every connector#

Before disconnecting anything, take clear photos from several angles of every wire connector on the board, and label any that look alike. Frigidaire boards carry four to eight harness connectors; each is keyed to plug one way, but photos keep you from mixing up which connector goes to which header.

4. Disconnect the wire harnesses#

Gently release each connector by pressing its locking tab and pulling straight out — never pull by the wires, and use a small flathead to ease a stubborn tab. Note any ribbon cable joining the main board to the user interface, which releases from its ZIF connector.

5. Remove the mounting screws#

The board is held to the door or a bracket by two to four Phillips screws, or it snaps into a plastic enclosure. Remove the screws or release the clips and slide the board out by its edges, transferring the plastic housing to the new board if the replacement did not include one.

6. Verify the replacement board#

Compare the new board to the old — connector headers in the same positions, mounting holes aligned, and any jumpers or DIP switches set the same. Frigidaire occasionally revises layouts between runs, so a board ordered by model and serial should be an exact match.

7. Install the new board#

Set the new board in place and secure the two to four screws without overtightening, which can crack the PCB, and engage any snap clips. Reconnect every harness from your photos until each locking tab clicks, and seat the ribbon cable fully in its ZIF connector.

8. Reassemble and test#

Refit the inner door panel with all ten Torx T15 screws, tightening in a star pattern, and confirm the latch clicks when the door closes. Restore power; the new board may flash or cycle through indicators for 5-10 seconds on first power-up, which is normal initialization.

If it still misbehaves#

• Runs but never drains: more likely a drain pump or hose issue than the board.
• Display works but the fill valve never opens: the fill-valve connector is probably on the wrong header — recheck against your photos.
• Dead again after a storm: a surge is a top cause of board failure; a whole-house surge protector helps prevent a repeat.
