Frigidaire Dishwasher i10: The Tub Did Not Fill in Time
40-Second Check Before You Call Anyone
Walk to the sink cabinet and look at the water supply valve feeding your dishwasher. Turn it fully counterclockwise (open). Then pull the dishwasher circuit breaker for five minutes, restore power, and start a Normal wash. Listen during the first 90 seconds for rushing water. If you hear a strong, steady flow and i10 does not reappear, the valve was simply bumped partially closed during under-sink work. This resolves roughly four out of ten i10 cases.

How the Fill System Works on Frigidaire Dishwashers
The control board gives the water inlet valve a fixed window to fill the tub. On standard Frigidaire models (FFID prefix), this window is approximately eight minutes. On Gallery models with PrecisionWash (FGID prefix), the window extends to ten minutes because Gallery units use a staged fill sequence that pauses briefly to check turbidity sensor readings before resuming.
Water level is not measured directly. Instead, a pressure switch connects to the tub through a narrow rubber air dome tube. As water rises, trapped air in this tube compresses against a diaphragm inside the pressure switch. When pressure reaches the calibrated fill level, the switch sends a signal and the board closes the inlet valve. If no signal arrives before the timeout expires, the board logs i10 and halts.
Three components sit in this signal chain, and any one can cause i10:
Water inlet valve (807131901, typically $40-$70). This electromechanical solenoid opens when the board energizes it. On standard models it sits behind the lower front kick plate on the left side. On Gallery models, access is through the left side panel secured with Torx T15 screws (the Frigidaire signature fastener across their entire dishwasher line).
Pressure switch (154680801, $20-$40). A pneumatic sensor mounted on the outer tub wall, connected to the air dome tube. The switch has a single wire connector and one mounting screw.
Air dome tube. A thin rubber tube running from a port on the tub floor up to the pressure switch. This tube clogs with food residue and mineral scale more often than either electrical component fails.
Testing Each Component
Inlet valve test. Turn off the breaker. Follow the household supply hose to where it enters the dishwasher. The valve is at this junction. Disconnect the two wire leads from the solenoid coil terminals. Set your multimeter to resistance. A healthy Frigidaire dishwasher inlet valve reads between 500 and 1500 ohms. An open reading means the coil burned out.
Even with good resistance, the valve can be mechanically stuck. Remove the inlet hose and look into the valve port. You should see a clean mesh screen and the plunger seat behind it. Mineral scale on the plunger seat prevents full opening even when the coil energizes.
Pressure switch test. Pull the rubber tube from the switch nipple. Blow gently through the tube while listening. You should hear air bubbling into the tub. No air movement means the tube is clogged. Disconnect both ends, flush with hot water.
Next, blow directly into the switch nipple. You should hear the switch click at very low pressure. No click means the pressure switch diaphragm has failed.
Household supply test. Disconnect the inlet hose from the valve and hold the end over a bucket. Have someone open the supply valve. A healthy supply delivers roughly one gallon in 30 seconds. Weak or sputtering flow means your household pressure is below the 20 PSI minimum Frigidaire requires for proper fill.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Live 120V wiring in a wet environment is one of the most dangerous DIY scenarios. Water + electricity = serious shock risk. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Repair Steps
Inlet valve replacement. Close the supply valve. Pull the breaker. Disconnect the supply hose from the valve, then disconnect the two wire connectors (photograph positions first). Remove the single mounting screw securing the valve bracket. Pull the old valve out, noting the outlet port orientation. Install the new valve in the same orientation. Reconnect wires (polarity does not matter on solenoid coils), reconnect the supply hose, restore power and water. Run a cycle to verify.
Pressure switch replacement. Pull the breaker. Follow the air dome tube to the switch on the tub wall. Disconnect the tube and wire connector. Remove the mounting screw. Snap in the new switch, reconnect everything.
Air dome tube clearing. Pull both ends of the tube. Soak in hot water with white vinegar for 30 minutes. Flush under running water until clear. Reinstall with firm fits on both nipples.

Repair vs. Replace
Frigidaire dishwashers average 12 to 14 years of service. If your unit is under nine years old and has no other fault codes, spending up to $190 on an inlet valve repair buys three to five additional years. Replacement dishwashers plus installation run $700 to $1,200 in the Sacramento area, making repair the clear economic choice for anything under a decade old.
Preventing i10
Run your dishwasher at least twice weekly even with partial loads. Regular water flow keeps the inlet valve seals pliable. In Sacramento's hard water (8-12 grains per gallon), run a vinegar rinse cycle monthly to dissolve mineral buildup on the inlet screen and inside the air dome tube before it accumulates enough to restrict flow.
Don't Void Your Warranty
Opening your appliance yourself may void the manufacturer warranty. Our repair comes with a 90-day guarantee, and we document everything for warranty compliance.

FAQ
Will i10 damage my dishwasher if I keep trying cycles? No mechanical damage occurs. The dishwasher simply refuses to proceed past the fill stage. However, continuing to energize a failing inlet valve coil repeatedly can accelerate coil burnout.
Can a clogged drain filter cause i10? No. The drain filter in the tub floor connects only to the drain system. A clogged drain causes i20, not i10. The fill and drain systems are completely separate signal paths.
My dishwasher fills partway then shows i10. Partial fill followed by i10 means water enters but at insufficient volume. The inlet valve opens but delivers less flow than the pressure switch requires within the timeout. Either household pressure is marginal, the valve screen is partially blocked, or the solenoid is weakening and not opening fully. Replace the inlet valve.
