Dacor Gas Stove Burner Won't Ignite: Causes & Fix
With a Dacor burner that won't light, let the click guide you. A cooktop burner that clicks and clicks but never catches is almost always damp or dirty at the burner head; a burner that has gone dead silent means the shared spark module has quit. A Dacor oven that won't fire is nearly always a glow igniter too tired…
The click is the first branch#
Turn a surface burner to light. Sparking-but-not-catching means the ignition works and the fault is right at the burner. Total silence on every burner means the spark module feeding them all has failed; silence on just one burner points at that electrode or its wire. That single listen decides whether you reach for a cleaning pin or a parts catalog.
Sparks but won't catch#
- Pull the cap and head and let any moisture — from a boil-over or a wet wipe — dry off; damp shorts the spark.
- Run a straight pin through each port, and pass on the toothpick, whose tip can break off inside.
- Set the cap back flat so the spark can reach the gas; a cocked cap misfires.
- Check the ceramic electrode for a hairline crack or a wide, carboned gap — it should sit a small fraction of an inch from the burner rim.

The oven side#
A Dacor oven burner sits behind a safety valve that only opens once its glow igniter pulls full current. The trap: a worn igniter keeps glowing, so it looks fine, yet it can't draw enough to release the gas. If yours lights up but crawls to full brightness — much slower than the minute or so a healthy one takes — or reads high on a meter, it has aged out and needs replacing even though it still glows. Glow igniters run a few years; the solid-state surface sparkers last far longer.
Ahead of the holiday cooking#
A burner that catches only on the second or third try is on borrowed time, and it will fail the day the whole family is over. If the oven has been slow to light through the fall, have the igniter's draw checked and the part swapped before the holiday cooking, not during it. To confirm the igniter and safety valve, you can book a visit.

A couple more checks#
Make sure the gas is fully on and that other gas appliances run, and glance at the wiring behind the range for loose spade terminals or chew marks — a nicked wire behind a Dacor range produces exactly this kind of hit-or-miss ignition.
