Dacor Range Oven Not Heating? Causes & Fix
Most likely the bake igniter has weakened on a gas Dacor so it glows but never opens the gas valve, or a bake or broil element has burned out on an electric model — a tripped thermal fuse, a control-board relay fault, or an open temperature sensor can each also leave the oven cold, so confirm which heat source your…
How a Dacor oven makes heat#
Dacor, a Samsung subsidiary since 2016, builds both gas and electric ranges. A gas oven lights only when its hot-surface igniter draws enough current to open the gas safety valve; an electric oven heats through separate bake and broil elements under sensor control. Most no-heat faults live in that ignition or element path, with the control board and safety devices behind them.
Causes at a glance#
| Likely cause | What you'll notice | Share of cases | First move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bake igniter failed (gas) | Glows, clicks, but won't light | 35% | Replace the hot-surface igniter |
| Element burned out (electric) | No heat, visible break | 25% | Inspect the bake/broil element |
| Thermal fuse tripped | Dead after overheating | 20% | Check the thermal fuse |
| Control board / relay fault | Erratic or no heat | 15% | Inspect the control board |
| Temperature sensor open | Wrong temps, no heat | 5% | Test the oven sensor |

Working through the causes#
Bake igniter failed — gas (35%). Dacor gas ranges like the DOP48M96DPS and DOP36M96GLS use hot-surface igniters rated around 3.2 to 3.6 amps to open the gas safety valve. As the silicon-carbide igniter ages it still glows but no longer draws enough current, so the valve never opens and the burner will not light. The igniter is replaced. Element burned out — electric (25%). Dacor electric ranges use separate bake and broil elements, and a burned-out element usually shows a visible break, blister, or burn-through. A failed element is replaced. Thermal fuse tripped (20%). Dacor ranges carry a thermal fuse rated roughly 500°F to 590°F on the rear oven wall. An overheat — commonly after a self-clean cycle — opens it and kills the heat. The fuse is tested and replaced, and the overheat cause addressed. Control board / relay fault (15%). The oven control board switches power to the elements or the gas valve circuit through relays. A failed relay leaves the oven cold, and the board is replaced after the element and igniter are cleared. Temperature sensor open (5%). The RTD sensor probe at the rear of the cavity reports temperature by resistance. Open or badly drifted, it misleads the board so heat is wrong or absent. It is tested against its resistance spec and replaced.
Diagnose it, step by step#
- Disconnect power at the breaker before inspecting elements or wiring.
- Determine whether your range is gas or electric, which splits the diagnosis.
- On a gas oven, watch the igniter: a glow with clicking but no flame means it is too weak to open the valve.
- On an electric oven, inspect the bake and broil elements for a visible break.
- If the oven went dead after self-clean, check the thermal fuse before anything else.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Gas ovens involve live gas lines — a loose connection creates explosion and carbon monoxide risk. Electric ovens run on 240V circuits. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Preventing a repeat#
- Run self-clean sparingly, since its heat is what most often trips the thermal fuse.
- Replace a slow-to-light gas igniter early, before it fails to light at all.
- Use a surge protector rated for the range to shield the control board.
- Do not line the oven floor with foil, which traps heat and can stress the thermal fuse.
- Confirm the gas supply valve is fully open before assuming an ignition fault on a gas model.
