LG Gas Stove Uneven Flame — Causes & Fixes
The top cause of an uneven LG burner flame is clogged ports — grease and food debris block the holes so the flame comes out patchy. Remove the cap and head, soak them, and clear each port with a pin. If the flame is yellow or orange the air shutter needs opening for more air; if it's tall on one side only, the cap is…
Read the flame first#
A good gas flame is steady blue with small yellow tips. Yellow, orange, or uneven flames tell you the air-to-gas mixture is off, the ports are blocked, or a part is worn — and because a yellow flame can give off carbon monoxide on top of wasting gas and cooking unevenly, treat it as a job to do now, not later.
LG's gas hardware#
LG gas ranges light with electronic spark ignition and ceramic igniters, and the ProBake and InstaView models share one gas-delivery platform; the LRG and LSG series are the most common in homes. The igniter only lights the flame — the flame's shape and color come down to the burner cap, ports, and air, which you can service yourself.

What throws the flame off#
- Blocked ports, most often. Boil-over and grease clog individual ports so some run tall and some go dark. Soak the cap and head in warm soapy water and open each port with a straight pin or needle; never a toothpick, which can break off inside a port.
- A crooked cap. The cap must sit flat and centered or it steers gas to one side — high there, low opposite. This happens after cleaning; lift, recenter, and press it down firmly.
- A misset air shutter. The shutter controls the air premixed with gas: too little gives yellow, sooty flames; too much gives noisy flames that lift and can blow out. Find the sliding plate on the burner tube once the cooktop is off and adjust to blue with small yellow tips.
- An orifice for the wrong gas. Natural gas and LP use different orifice sizes. If your LG was converted and a burner's orifice wasn't changed, it burns wrong — the natural-gas orifice is larger than the LP one.
- Low supply pressure. Weak flames across every burner suggest low gas pressure — a partly shut valve, a kinked flex connector, or a whole-house issue. Check the shutoff is fully open and the flex line runs without a sharp bend.
Step by step#
Lift every cap and head, soak them for about fifteen minutes in warm soapy water, clear each port with a pin, and dry them before they go back. Reseat each cap so it spins freely without wobble. Light the burners one at a time — blue with small yellow tips is correct, all-yellow needs more air, and a noisy blue flame that lifts needs less. If they're all weak, ask the utility to check pressure.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Appliances involve high voltage (120-240V), pressurized water, gas lines, and chemical refrigerants. Over 400 DIY repair injuries are reported yearly. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Get ready for the holidays#
LG cooktops earn their keep during holiday meals, where an even simmer and a quick boil matter. Clean the caps and ports before the season so every burner lights a clean blue flame. If cleaning and reseating don't fix it, or the orifice or pressure looks wrong, book a visit and let a technician with a pressure gauge and LG burner parts sort it out.
