LG DLG3401 / DLG3501 Gas Dryer: Problems & Fixes
On the LG DLG3401 and DLG3501 gas dryers, the classic symptom is heat that quits mid-cycle — intermittent gas valve coil failure is the most common fault, followed by a cracked igniter. Gas components are technician work, so this guide explains the faults, the codes, and the gas-safety maintenance that keeps the dryer…
Which models this covers#
Built from 2019 to 2023, these gas variants share one platform and parts catalog:
- DLG3401W
- DLG3501W
- DLG3401V
- DLG3501V
A same-prefix model not listed here uses the same burner, drum, and controls. The electric DLE versions share the cabinet, drum, belt, rollers, motor, and board — only the heat source differs.

Common problems for this model#
- Gas valve coils fail intermittently — 30%. The dryer heats, then quits mid-cycle as the coils weaken; the part is the coil set 5221EL2002A.
- Igniter cracks from thermal cycling — 20%. It glows but never reaches ignition temperature; the part is igniter MEE61841401.
- Thermal fuse blown from a restricted vent — 18%. The dryer goes completely dead; the part is thermal fuse 6931EL3003D.
- Drum-roller bearings wear — 15%. A thumping or squealing on tumble; the drum-roller kit is 4581EL2002C.
Gas safety comes first#
Gas repairs are not casual DIY. Check the gas supply line connection annually for leaks using soapy water, and if you ever smell gas, shut off the supply and call a professional rather than running the dryer. Beyond the gas side, the single most important task on any dryer is keeping the lint path clean: clean the lint filter before every load and clear the exhaust duct to the exterior once a year. A restricted exhaust vent is the number one cause of both poor drying performance and dryer fires — and on this dryer it is also the direct cause of the blown thermal fuse at number three, since a fuse trips to protect a dryer that cannot vent its heat.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Gas dryers carry carbon monoxide and explosion risk. Even electric dryers involve 240V circuits that can deliver a fatal shock. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Error codes#
Each code links to a full walkthrough:
- Error D80 — click for full diagnosis and fix
- Error D90 — click for full diagnosis and fix
- Error D95 — click for full diagnosis and fix
- Error HS — click for full diagnosis and fix
The D80, D90, and D95 codes all report restricted airflow — another pointer back to the vent. For a code not listed, unplug the unit or flip the breaker for 60 seconds, then restore power.
Recall status#
There are no active recalls on the LG DLG3401 series as of 2026-05-29. Since recalls can be posted at any time, check your model number at the Consumer Product Safety Commission — cpsc.gov.

Repair or replace?#
These gas dryers are competitively priced, and gas valve coils and igniters are standard maintenance items that are always cost-effective to replace. Only a motor failure past 12 years approaches replacement territory. The rule here uses a 12-year line: under 12 years old and a fix under 50% of a new dryer favors repair; past 12 years, weigh the cumulative history against 40% of replacement cost.
Maintenance#
- Clean the lint filter before every load.
- Clean the exhaust ductwork from dryer to exterior annually — restricted vents cause thermal-fuse failures.
- Inspect the igniter every two to three years; a weakening igniter draws less current and eventually cannot open the gas valve.
- Check the gas supply line connection annually for leaks using soapy water.

Common questions#
Why does it heat for a few minutes then stop? That is the classic gas valve coil failure: the coils weaken with heat and can no longer hold the gas valve open, so the burner cuts out and the drum tumbles cold. Replace both coils (5221EL2002A) as a set, since they fail together.
What is the difference between DLE and DLG? DLE models are electric, using a heating element (5301EL1001J); DLG models are gas, using an igniter and gas valve coils. The drum, belt, rollers, motor, and control board are identical.
How do I check the igniter? With power on a timed cycle, it should glow bright orange-white within seconds; a dim glow that never lights the gas, or no glow at all, means the igniter has failed.
