How to Clean a KitchenAid Glass Cooktop
A KitchenAid glass cooktop cleans with a razor, a cooktop cream, and vinegar — but the trim around it needs a different touch, because a PrintShield stainless finish strips if you hit it with the wrong cleaner. Do the glass and the surround the right way and the whole range is guest-ready for the cooking season. Never…
Cool it down and protect the trim#
Wait for the "HOT" indicator on the control panel to clear, and if the oven below ran recently, give it time too — residual heat warms the cooktop from underneath. Lay a towel over any PrintShield stainless nearby so cooktop cleaner cannot overspray onto the fingerprint-resistant coating, which is fussier than the glass itself.
Razor first, then cream#
Hold a single-edge razor at roughly a 30- to 45-degree angle and push forward under burnt residue — never pull backward. Work from the center of a stain outward, and steer clear of the printed burner-zone graphics, which the blade can scrape away. For bonded sugar spills, soak first with a baking-soda paste under a damp cloth for about thirty minutes before scraping. Then run a thin line of Cerama Bryte across the zone and work it in with a damp cloth; the mild abrasive polishes where plain baking soda would be too coarse for daily use.

Metallic marks and hard-water rings#
White rings around pot rests are mineral deposits — soak them with undiluted white vinegar for about five minutes to dissolve the lime. Gray metallic smears are different: they are tiny amounts of aluminum or copper transferred from pan bottoms, and they need a dedicated aluminum-mark remover or a gentle baking-soda paste rather than more scrubbing.
Finish the glass, then the knobs#
- Buff the glass with a dry microfiber cloth in straight overlapping strokes until your finger drags on nothing.
- Wipe the stainless trim with a cloth dampened in warm soapy water — on PrintShield, use only water and microfiber, never alcohol or silicone cleaners.
- Pull the friction-fit control knobs straight off, wash them in warm soapy water, check behind them for grease, and dry fully before pressing back on.
Skip the Magic Eraser entirely — its melamine foam is a mild abrasive that leaves the micro-scratches that make a cooktop look permanently hazy.
