1. Check level with a bubble level on top. Adjust the leveling feet until it's solid and can't rock, then lock the jam nuts. A new install that still shakes may have shipping bolts left in — remove them.
2. Re-run a wash with a single balanced load. If the shaking only happens with certain loads, it's distribution, not hardware.
3. On a front-loader, push the empty tub and let go. More than about an inch of travel, or a tub that doesn't spring back to center, means worn shock absorbers.
4. Look for a cracked spider arm — check for white aluminum-corrosion powder where the arm meets the drum hub, and rust streaks on your laundry.
5. On a top-loader, listen for the tub hitting the cabinet during spin; that's suspension rods whose damping pads have worn out. Replace the rods as a set.
