GE Profile Gas Range Uneven Flame — Step-by-Step
A GE Profile burner that burns unevenly is usually clogged ports or a tilted cap, and a yellow flame means the air-to-gas mix is off. Work it in order: clean the cap, head, and ports; reseat the cap flat; read the flame color; and only then consider air-shutter or gas-type causes. Most Profile uneven-flame problems…
Step 1 — clean every port#
Food and grease pack the small flame ports around a Profile burner, and a blocked port kills the flame at that spot while neighboring ports flare. Take off the cap and head, wash them in warm soapy water, and clear each port with a straight pin until the ring is unbroken. Do not use a toothpick — a snapped-off tip plugs a port for good.
Step 2 — reseat the cap flat#
A Profile cap set on crooked directs gas to one side, so the flame runs tall on one edge and weak opposite. Center the cap on the head and spin it; it should rotate smoothly with no wobble when seated right. This step alone corrects a lopsided flame surprisingly often.

Step 3 — read the flame#
Light the burner and look. Blue with small yellow tips is correct. A soft yellow flame is short of air; a noisy flame that lifts off the ports has too much. Note what you see before adjusting anything, because a clogged burner can imitate an air-mix problem until it is cleaned.
Step 4 — air shutter and gas type#
If flames stay yellow after cleaning, the air shutter on the burner tube may need a slight adjustment, reachable after removing the cooktop surface. And if the range was set for the wrong gas — natural versus propane — burners run yellow or weak regardless of cleaning, which is a setup correction rather than a shutter tweak.

Even flames for heavy cooking#
Since yellow flames waste gas, cook unevenly, and can produce carbon monoxide, restoring a clean blue burn before the busy cooking season is worth the few minutes. Cleaning and reseating handle most Profile cases at home. For an air-shutter adjustment or a gas-type setup issue, book an EasyBear technician and we will bring Profile burner parts.
