Why the Clicking Won't Stop#

The click is the spark generator trying to light a burner. When something bridges or confuses the igniter circuit, it keeps sparking even with every knob off. The good news is that the two most common causes — moisture and debris — you can often clear yourself.

What Makes an F&P Igniter Click Nonstop#

Moisture is the headline cause for a reason: gas cooktops spark from a shared module, and a little water where the igniter electrode sits will make the whole set click until it dries. This is why the problem so often appears immediately after cleaning or a boil-over.

Debris is the close second. Grease and food packed around the electrode or under the burner cap can keep the spark gap bridged. Clearing it and re-seating the cap frequently stops the clicking outright.

Stop the Clicking Now#

First, turn every knob fully off and confirm none is between settings — a knob left slightly on will spark on purpose. Then dry the cooktop completely: wipe around each igniter, lift the burner caps and grates, and let the area air out. A hair dryer on a cool setting speeds this up. If a single burner is the offender, clean the electrode and the cap ports with a dry brush, making sure the cap sits flat when you replace it.

If the cooktop is bone dry and clean but still clicks, the fault is electrical — a stuck switch inside a knob, the spark module, or the igniter wiring. Those are component replacements rather than a cleaning, and on a model like the OR90 they are best matched to the exact part by a technician.

Telling a Cleaning Problem From an Electrical One#

The single most useful diagnostic is whether the clicking is tied to moisture. If it started right after a spill, a boil-over, or a wipe-down and eases as the cooktop dries, you're dealing with the harmless, common version and no parts are needed. If it clicks with the cooktop bone dry, in any weather, and cleaning the electrode and cap makes no difference, the fault has moved into the circuit itself. From there the pattern narrows it further: a single burner that clicks on its own points at a stuck switch inside that knob, several burners clicking together points at the shared spark module they all feed from, and clicking that comes and goes with the occasional missed spark points at a wiring or connector fault along the harness. Because all of these send sparks near open gas ports, don't let a dry-and-clean cooktop keep clicking indefinitely — turn the affected burners off and have the spark circuit traced. Keeping the burners and caps clean and dry is also the best prevention, since moisture and debris are what start the vast majority of these complaints.
