Bertazzoni Oven Not Heating: Causes & Fix

The gas-valve chain#

Understanding one thing solves most of these: the oven burner's safety valve stays shut until the igniter draws its rated current, roughly three to three-and-a-half amps. That is deliberate — no current, no gas. So an igniter can look perfectly healthy, glowing away, yet be too weak to trip the valve. A clamp meter on the igniter circuit is the honest test; a glow that only reaches dim orange, or takes far longer than about a minute to brighten, is an igniter on its way out even if it lights up.

Reading the codes#

• E3 / E6 — ignition. These point at the gas igniter or the valve it drives. Confirm the current draw before condemning anything.
• E1 / E4 — temperature sensor. Bertazzoni uses a European NTC probe in the cavity that reads about 1,080 to 1,100 ohms cold. An open, a near-zero short, or a reading far off that value is a dead sensor — and a drifting one makes the oven miss its target rather than fail cold.

When it is the board or the fan#

If codes clear on a power-cycle but return, or the oven ignores the controls entirely, suspect the control board — look for bulging capacitors or scorched relay contacts, and cut the breaker for ten minutes before condemning it. On Professional-series ovens with dual convection, a seized fan motor won't stop the oven heating but will leave it wildly uneven; the motor windings should read in the tens of ohms.

Before the holiday season#

An oven that takes three or four tries to light through the fall is an igniter warning you, and it will fail on the day you most need it. Have the igniter's current draw measured and, if it is weak, replace it before the holiday cooking starts rather than after a cold turkey. Because these are European gas ranges with proprietary parts, that is a job worth booking with a technician who knows them.

Why the brand matters here#

Bertazzoni's gas safety design and NTC sensors differ from American ranges, so a general appliance tech may not carry the right igniter or know the code set. Matching the OEM igniter's amperage rating matters — an off-spec part can glow and still never open the valve.
