Wolf Gas Stove Keeps Clicking: Normal or a Fault?

When clicking is normal#

Every Wolf burner clicks for a second or two while it lights — the spark repeats until it senses the flame, then stops. If your burner clicks only during that brief light-up and then runs quietly, nothing is wrong. It is only a problem when the clicking will not stop.

When it isn't#

Continuous clicking means the spark never gets its all-clear:

• Moisture on the electrode. A boil-over, steam, or a damp wipe leaves a film across the ceramic tip that keeps shorting the spark until it dries — the top cause.
• Food or grease in the gap. Baked-on spatter across the electrode conducts current the same way water does.
• A stuck red-knob switch. The switch behind the knob can hang closed on grease so a burner keeps calling for a spark regardless of the knob.
• A failed spark module. Shorted internally, the module fires continuously even when the burner is clean and dry.

Dry it and clean it#

Let the burner cool, lift the dual-stack cap and head, and blot up every drop of moisture, then dry the electrode fully — a fan or cool hair dryer helps, and trapped water can take an hour or two to clear on its own. Ease any hardened food from the electrode gap with a wooden pick and reseat the cap square. If one burner still clicks bone-dry, its knob switch is stuck; if several click together, the spark module is the likely fault.

Before the holiday cooking season#

A cooktop that ticks through every meal is at its most maddening with guests in the kitchen. If a spill or a deep clean left yours clicking past the light-up, dry and clean the burners now so the range is quiet before the holiday cooking. If it keeps clicking dry, book a visit and a technician will test the switches and swap the spark module.
