Normal venting versus a real leak#
Every Samsung oven vents some heat and moisture by design — a visible wisp of steam from the vent during baking, or warmth near the vent opening, is expected. What is not normal is heat or steam escaping around the door edges, a door that feels hot along its perimeter, condensation running down the front glass, or the kitchen heating up whenever the oven runs. Those point to a sealing problem or an oven running hotter than its setpoint.

Working through the causes#
Worn door gasket (most common). The gasket around the door opening is what keeps heat and steam inside. Over years it hardens, flattens, or tears, and once it stops making full contact the oven leaks heat at the edges and steam escapes onto the front. Run a hand around the closed door for warm spots, then inspect the gasket for gaps, cracks, or crushed sections and replace it if it is no longer springy and continuous.
Door misalignment or hinge sag (common). Even a perfect gasket cannot seal a door that does not close flush. Hinges loosen or sag over time, or a door knocked out of square leaves a gap at one corner. Check that the door sits even against the frame all around; if a corner stands proud, the hinges need adjustment or replacement so the gasket can seat evenly.
Normal vent steam (common). Before chasing a fault, rule this out. A visible plume from the vent during a moist bake, and mild warmth at the vent, are how the oven manages humidity — not a leak. Only heat or steam at the door edges signals a sealing problem.
Temperature sensor drift (occasional). Samsung ovens run a closed loop: a thermistor at the rear cavity wall reports temperature, the board reads its resistance, and it modulates the element to hold the target. A drifted sensor lets the oven overshoot, which shows up as extra steam and heat and sometimes an off temperature. The panel offers a calibration offset of about plus or minus 35°F for minor drift; if you need more than that to get accurate temperatures, replace the sensor rather than compensate for it.
Element hot spot (occasional). On electric models the hidden bake element sits beneath a smooth floor panel; lift the panel's rear edge and slide it toward the door to inspect. A section that glows brighter than the rest, or shows blisters or burn-through, is failing and radiating uneven heat. Confirm with a continuity test and replace an open element.
Stuck relay or overheating (rare, safety). If the oven overheats with no input, a relay may be stuck closed and feeding the element constantly — a potential fire hazard. Codes such as C-21, E-08, E-27, E-54, or SE1 can accompany control and sensor faults. Stop using the oven and have it serviced immediately if it heats on its own or you see arcing inside.
