How to Replace a Bosch Oven Lower Bake Element

Confirm the lower element, not the circuit#
The lower element supplies bottom heat for conventional bake; when it opens, the top broil element still works but bake struggles. With the 240V breaker off, set your meter to ohms and read across the two element posts at the rear cavity wall. A healthy Bosch element reads roughly 15-40 ohms depending on wattage — around 29 ohms is typical. An open (OL) reading confirms a broken element; a normal reading points upstream to the thermal fuse or control board instead.
Open the oven floor#
Pull the racks. On most Bosch ovens the floor is a lift-out panel — free the single rear Torx T20 screw if present, then lift the panel up and out to expose the element. On models with an EcoClean Direct coating, keep abrasives off that panel and do not scratch it. The element mounts flat to the floor area with a couple of brackets and passes through the rear wall on ceramic insulators.

Swap the element#
- Confirm the 240V breaker is off before touching any terminal.
- Remove the two or three Torx T20 bracket screws holding the element down and note their spots.
- Behind the oven, pull each push-on spade connector straight off the element posts — photograph which wire goes where first.
- Ease the element forward so its posts clear the rear ceramic bushings, then lift it out through the door.
- Thread the new element's posts back through the bushings from inside, reconnect the spades, and secure the brackets.
Reassemble and burn it in#
Drop the floor panel back and refit its screw and the racks. Restore power and set conventional bake to 350°F — the lower element should start glowing within about thirty seconds. If the ceramic bushings are cracked, replace them too, since a wet cracked bushing can arc at 240V. Run the empty oven at 400°F for a bit first to burn off the new element's manufacturing oils before you cook.
