Samsung Gas Stove Smells Like Gas: Causes & Fix

Is the smell actually normal?#

The one telling question is timing. A whiff during that first second of lighting is just unburned gas beating the spark, and it clears the moment the flame establishes. A smell that hangs around a lit burner, or one you notice when nothing is on, means gas is escaping somewhere and needs tracing.

Shut it down safely#

If the odour is strong, treat it as a leak and do not flip switches, use a phone indoors, or light anything. Turn the shutoff valve behind or below the range a quarter turn so the handle sits crosswise to the pipe, open windows, get everyone out, and let the utility check — they do it for free. Only start hunting the source once the smell is faint and clearly tied to one burner.

Where a Samsung range tends to leak#

On NX58 and NX60 ranges the leak is almost always at a joint rather than deep inside:

• The flexible connector behind the range. This corrugated line works loose over time, especially after the stove has been pulled out to clean behind it.
• A burner not fully off or half-lit. A knob a hair off the stop, or a ring burning on one side only, lets raw gas drift from the dark ports.
• A surface-burner valve that no longer seats. A worn valve weeps a faint, steady smell near the knobs even with everything off, and gets replaced rather than cleaned.
• The oven safety valve. If the odour comes from the oven with all controls off, this valve may be seeping.

Find it with soapy water#

Mix dish soap and water, brush it over the flexible connector, its unions, and the manifold fittings, and watch for growing bubbles that mark the leak — never seal a flare fitting with pipe tape. Then light each burner alone and read the flame: mostly blue with small yellow tips is healthy, while heavy yellow or lifting flames point to a fouled port rather than a supply leak.

Ahead of holiday cooking#

The range gets dragged out and pushed back for a deep clean right before the holidays, and that is exactly when the flex connector gets nudged loose. After you slide the stove home, run a soapy-water check on the connection before the first big meal.
