Samsung Dishwasher Thermostat Replacement
A Samsung dishwasher washing with lukewarm water or throwing an HE code often has a tripped or failed hi-limit thermostat (part DD47-00010A) — a small safety disc on the sump housing you can meter and swap with one screw and two wires.
The hi-limit is a backstop, not the main temperature control. The board and thermistor manage heat normally; the hi-limit only cuts the heater if water climbs past its rated ceiling. When it trips early or fails open, the heater loses power and washes never get hot.

Test Before You Swap#
The hi-limit only acts if water exceeds roughly 185 to 200°F; under normal cycles it does nothing. So a tripped hi-limit is usually a symptom of another fault. Before condemning it:
- Kill power at the breaker and drop the kickplate.
- Find the disc on the sump housing near the heater, with two push-on terminals.
- Pull a terminal and meter across it — at room temperature a healthy thermostat reads continuity; OL means it has tripped or failed open.
- If your model has a manual reset button, press it. If it trips straight back, something is overheating and you need to find that cause, not just reset the part.
Why It Tripped#
A hi-limit rarely fails on its own. Look for the reason it saw too much heat: a failed thermistor feeding the board bad data, a stuck heater relay leaving the element on, or a clogged sump starving water flow past the heater so it bakes the dry element. Fix that and the new thermostat will stay closed.

Replacing the Thermostat#
With power off and the kickplate removed, disconnect the two terminals and back out the single mounting screw or clip. Seat the new DD47-00010A with firm thermal contact against the sump housing — a loose mount reads the wrong temperature. Reconnect the terminals, refit the kickplate, restore power, and run a cycle, watching that the water heats without overshooting. Tools are minimal: a #2 Phillips, a multimeter, and needle-nose pliers for the terminals.
