Ten parts guides, and two entries are more specific than their generic names suggest. The water-level sensor is the part that tells the control how full the tub is, so it governs both an overfilled machine and one that washes in too little water. The door latch guide names the lid lock, which is the top-load version of the same interlock. Around them: the door boot seal, the drain pump, the filter, the water inlet valve, the motor, the switch, the thermostat and the control board.
Water level is the complaint most likely to be misdiagnosed, so it is worth starting there when the fill looks wrong. A tub that fills too high or too low is the water-level sensor before it is the inlet valve, because the valve only opens when the control tells it to. A machine that will not start is the lid lock. A machine that will not drain is the filter, then the pump — in that order, always, because one is free.
The lid lock is a safety interlock and is replaced rather than jumpered, since it is what keeps the drum from spinning with the lid raised. The motor and control board are the mains-potential end of the list. Filters, pumps and seals are approachable with basic tools.
