The short answer
FEE7 names the main cavity broil element or its wiring — the upper element. Baking may look almost normal, because the lower element carries most of a bake cycle, and the fault shows up when you try to brown something or when preheat takes longer than it used to. The useful work here is narrowing, not fixing: most of it costs nothing and all of it shortens the visit if one is needed.

| FEE7 | There may be a problem with the main cavity broil element or the associated wiring. |
What you observe, and what to record
- Broil does nothing, or browns only in a small patch — The upper element is the only heat source in that mode.
- What the appliance was doing at the moment it appeared — Starting, part-way through, or sitting idle. Each points at a different circuit, and it is forgotten within a day if it is not written down.
- Whether the display shows anything besides the code — A second code, a flashing indicator or a missing segment is information the code number alone does not carry.
Causes, most likely first on this oven
- The broil element has failed open — First: it runs hotter than the bake element and cycles harder, so it is the element that usually goes first on ovens that get used for browning.
- A burnt terminal at the rear of the element — Second: the spade connections carry full element current, and a terminal that has run hot fails while the coil is still sound.
- A short to the cavity shell — Third: uncommon, and the version that trips a breaker instead of doing nothing.
Check in this order, and why
- Look up at the element cold with a torch — A break or blister is usually visible and settles it at no cost.
- Select broil briefly and watch for an even glow — Even glow along the whole element means the element is fine and the fault is elsewhere.
- Confirm bake still works normally — Bake working and broil not is the pattern that points at the element or its own relay.
What an owner can safely check
- Inspect the upper element cold, with a torch — Door open, oven off, cavity cool. The whole owner diagnosis is visual.
Tools: torchAbout 10 min
- Wipe the control area with a barely damp cloth and dry it — Never sprayed cleaner, which runs into the seams. A damp panel produces faults that look electrical and are not.
Tools: microfibre clothAbout 10 min
- Photograph the display with the code showing — Codes are easy to transcribe wrongly and a photograph is not. It also timestamps the fault, which matters if it becomes intermittent.
About 5 min
- STOP HERE — leave the element in place — The terminals are live and reached from behind the rear panel.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A wall oven or range is heavy and weighted towards the front: never let the open door carry the weight of the unit, and do not move one out of its housing without a second pair of hands.
When to call a technician
Call once broil produces no glow, once there is a visible break, or straight away if selecting broil trips the breaker. The tripping case means the element is faulting to earth: leave the mode alone, and do not keep resetting the breaker to try again. If anything smells hot or looks scorched, switch the appliance off at the breaker and say so when you book.

What this page does not cover
This page reads FEE7 for KitchenAid ovens in general, from the manufacturer's shared code index. A code can be documented differently for one family, so where a model-line page exists for your unit it is the more specific answer and is linked below. Not here: wiring colours, connector positions and part numbers, which differ by family.
