How big is a kegerator?#
A kegerator is 20 to 25 inches wide and 33 to 36 inches tall as a freestanding unit, 24 inches wide as an undercounter built-in, or 15 to 19 inches as a compact mini. But the cabinet is only half the story — the tap tower on top adds height, which the table and clearances below spell out.

Installation clearances for a kegerator#
- Tap tower clearance: 14–16 in in of extra height above a kegerator so the draft tower and tap handle clear an overhead cabinet.
- Undercounter cutout height: 34 in in of cabinet height a built-in kegerator needs before you add the tower on top.
- Rear clearance: 2–3 in in behind a freestanding kegerator so the compressor and the gas line have room.
- Door swing: 24 in in of front space a kegerator door needs to swing open so the keg can be lifted in.
Will your kegerator fit? Clearances and door swing#
The trap with a kegerator is measuring only the cabinet and forgetting the tower. Above the unit you need 14 to 16 inches of extra height so the draft tower and tap handle clear an overhead cabinet — plan that first if it slides under a bar counter. For an undercounter built-in, the cabinet cutout is 34 inches tall before you add the tower on top, so the finished stack is taller than the opening. Behind a freestanding kegerator, leave 2 to 3 inches so the compressor and the gas line have room. In front, the door needs 24 inches to swing open, which matters because you have to lift a full keg in and out. Measure the cabinet opening, then add the tower height on top and check what is above it.
