Jenn-Air Gas Range Uneven Flame — Causes & Fix
An uneven flame on a Jenn-Air gas range is usually clogged burner ports or a sealed cap that is not seated flat, with a yellow flame pointing to the air mix or gas type. Clean the cap, head, and ports with a pin and reseat the cap level; on this Whirlpool-built platform that restores an even blue flame in most cases…
Ports clog first#
Jenn-Air's sealed burners share the Whirlpool design, and like any gas burner they clog with grease and boil-over residue that block individual ports. The result is a flame that runs tall at some holes and vanishes at others. Lift the cap and head, wash them, and clear every port with a straight pin so the flame ring is continuous. A wooden toothpick can break off and plug a port, so stick to a pin or needle.
Seat the sealed cap flat#
A sealed cap sitting off-center throws gas to one side, giving a lopsided flame. After cleaning, set the cap square on its head and spin it to confirm it does not rock. On these burners a proper reseat is often the whole fix for a one-sided flame.

Flame color and air#
A correct Jenn-Air flame is blue with small yellow tips. A lazy yellow flame is short of air — usually from a clogged burner — and a flame that roars and lifts has too much. Clean the burner and recheck the color before deciding anything is wrong with the air setting.
Gas type and supply#
If the range was set up for the wrong gas after a natural-gas or propane conversion, a burner runs yellow or weak regardless of cleaning; the orifice must match the gas type. And weak flames on every burner at once point to low supply — check that the shutoff is fully open and the connector is not kinked.

Clean burn before the season#
Because yellow, uneven flames waste gas and soot cookware, restoring a clean blue burn before the heavy cooking weeks is worthwhile. Cleaning the ports and reseating the cap handle most Jenn-Air cases at home. For an orifice or air-setup issue, book an EasyBear technician and we will bring Jenn-Air burner parts and verify the gas setup.
