Start with the knobs-off test#
Turn every burner fully off and listen. On this Whirlpool-based design each knob contains a small spark switch, and when one sticks closed it keeps the module firing even with all burners off — the signature Jenn-Air clicking complaint. Press and rock each knob through its off position; if the click stops as you work a particular knob, that switch is your fault and needs replacing.
If it only clicks with a burner on#
Clicking that appears only while a burner is lit is a burner-side problem, not the switch. The usual causes are a wet electrode after a boil-over or a cap sitting off-center. Lift the grate, cap, and head, dry the electrode, clear the ports with a pin, and reseat the cap flat so it spins without wobble.

Inspect the electrode#
A cracked ceramic electrode leaks its spark to ground and clicks without ever settling. Check the electrode body for a hairline crack or a carbon line, and make sure its wire is firmly on the terminal. Clean a lightly fouled tip; replace a cracked electrode.
Watch for downdraft wiring#
Many Jenn-Air cooktops carry a downdraft heritage, and on those models the ignition wiring runs near the blower. A lead that has vibrated loose there can make a burner spark erratically. If one burner is intermittent, trace its wire back toward the module past the downdraft fan and check the connection before condemning the electrode.
