Step-by-step#
1. Confirm which switch failed#
Match the symptom to the table, and cross-check any code against the tech sheet — F5 E2 is the door/lid circuit, F9 E1 a drain timeout, F0 E5 a suds lock, F3 E1 the pressure sensor. Enter diagnostic mode (hold the delay button for three seconds, then press power) to exercise the suspect switch before buying a part.
2. Open the right panel#
For a top-load lid switch, take the three rear Phillips screws off the top panel, slide it back, and lift. For a front-load door switch, remove the front lower panel (one Phillips each side) for lower access, or for the door switch itself release the boot outer band with needle-nose pliers and pull the front panel (four to six Torx T20 screws). Console switches come out after popping the end caps and rotating the console back. Photograph every connector first — the colours repeat between harnesses.
3. Test before replacing#
Set a multimeter to continuity and check the switch as its trigger is engaged — a lid or door switch should show continuity only when closed, a pressure switch should change state as you blow gently into its hose. A switch that never changes state has failed; a good reading points instead at wiring or the board.
4. Remove the old switch#
Press each harness tab and pull the connector straight off, never by the wires, then remove the mounting screws or clips, noting where each went. On a pressure switch, twist off the rubber sensing tube; on a lid or door switch, free the bracket.
5. Fit the replacement#
Set the new switch in the exact orientation of the old one, secure the hardware first, then reconnect each harness until the tab clicks — a half-seated connector is the top cause of an immediate repeat failure and can damage the board. Reattach any sensing tube.
6. Verify before closing#
Plug in with the machine still open and re-enter diagnostic mode to exercise just the new switch, confirm it responds, then unplug and reassemble. On a top-loader, hook the rear of the cabinet first and push forward until the clips snap; on a front-loader, set the boot drain holes to the 6 o'clock position.
7. Full test#
Run a complete Normal cycle with a small warm load and watch that the original symptom is gone — the lid or door signal registers, water fills to the right level, and no code returns across the run.
