How to Replace a Samsung Washer Pressure Switch

Disconnect power and the water supply before you start.

Confirm before ordering#

The symptoms worth acting on are specific: water coming out of the detergent dispenser, barely any water visible in the drum, or a PE or OE code on the display.

Run Samsung's diagnostic mode — hold Temp and Spin for three to five seconds on most WF models — to run the component tests that confirm it. Then meter the switch. Samsung publishes resistance values per model in the service manual, and a part that tests within spec may still have an intermittent connection rather than a dead component, so check the harness before condemning anything.

Check the air tube itself at the same time. A clogged tube produces exactly the same symptoms as a failed switch and costs nothing to clear.

Getting the right part#

Your model number is on the label inside the door frame on a WF-series front-loader, or under the lid on a WA-series top-loader. Cross-reference that number against the parts catalogue rather than matching by appearance: Samsung uses model-specific variants, and a visually identical part with a different suffix may not be electrically compatible with your control board.

Access and removal#

On front-loaders most internal components sit behind the top panel — three Phillips screws at the rear, slide back, lift. Some need the front panel, which means the top panel, then the control panel, then the boot seal clamp, then the front panel screws. The drain pump is the exception, reachable through the lower kick panel alone.

Photograph every wire connection before you touch it. The connectors are colour-coded and keyed so each only fits its own port, but photographs turn reassembly into checking rather than remembering.

Release the harness connector by pressing its tab and pulling straight out — never by the wires. Take out the mounting screws, which are Phillips #2 on essentially every Samsung washer component. Release any hoses by opening their spring clamps with pliers, and note the orientation of the part before it comes away.

Have towels down for anything on the water side. The drain pump area alone holds one to two cups between the filter and the pump housing.

Fitting and proving it#

Position the replacement exactly as the original sat. Secure the mounting hardware first, then reconnect hoses with the spring clamps fully engaged, then the wire harnesses — pushing each connector until you both hear and feel it click. Check no wire is pinched between components or panels, route the harnesses along their original paths, and refit any clips you removed.

Test before the panels go back on. Run a fill-and-drain cycle and watch every connection point for leaks, and confirm no error code appears. Only then reassemble, counting the screws back out of your tray, and run a full Normal cycle as final verification.

Reading the aftermath#

• Same code returns — reseat the harness connector first. If it is genuinely seated, the control board may be the real fault rather than the part you changed
• A new code that was not there before — a different harness got disconnected or left off. Open up and check every connector
• Works, then fails intermittently — damaged wire insulation shorting intermittently, or corroded connector pins losing contact under vibration
• A leak after a water-side part — spring clamps not fully engaged. Even slightly loose, they seep under pump pressure

Worth knowing on warranty: Samsung's 10-year digital inverter motor warranty covers motor failures only. Sensors, pumps and mechanical parts fall under the standard 1-year parts warranty. Samsung sensors typically fail open circuit rather than shorted, so an infinite reading is the expected signature.
