How to Replace Samsung Washer Suspension Rods
A Samsung washer that bangs, walks, or throws a DC or UE unbalance code on a properly balanced load has worn tub dampers — suspension rods on a top-loader, shock absorbers (part DC66-00470A) on a front-loader. Always replace all four together. Plan on 30-60 minutes. Difficulty: intermediate.
What the dampers do#
Four dampers hold the wash tub and soak up its movement during spin. Samsung WA-series top-loaders hang the outer tub from the cabinet on four suspension rods; WF-series front-loaders brace it against the base on four shock absorbers (DC66-00470A). As they wear, the tub swings too far, the machine bangs and walks, and the board flags DC or UE even when the load is even. Because worn and new dampers give different resistance, you replace all four as a set — mixing them just wears the new ones out fast.

Step-by-step#
1. Confirm it is the dampers#
The signs are a DC or UE code on a balanced load, visibly excessive tub movement through the door, and loud banging on spin. Enter diagnostic mode (on most WF models, hold Temp + Spin for 3-5 seconds) to run the spin test and confirm the unbalance, and rule out a simple off-level machine or an actually unbalanced load first.
2. Order the right part#
Find your model number (inside the door frame on a front-loader, under the lid on a top-loader) and match the damper set — Samsung uses model-specific variants, so a look-alike with a different suffix may not fit. The front-load shock is DC66-00470A.
3. Reach the dampers#
On a top-loader the suspension rods sit at the four corners between the outer tub and the cabinet top. On a front-loader the four shocks run at about 45-degree angles from the outer tub to the base, reached with the front panel off (the top panel, control panel, and boot-seal clamp come off first).
4. Remove all four#
Each damper pins at both ends with a locking clip or ball socket. Press the clip with a flathead (or pop the ball socket) and draw the rod or shock out of its seat. Take all four out, noting the angle and orientation.
5. Fit the new set#
Put the new dampers in the same positions and orientation — angle matters for even damping — and press each end home until its clip or socket catches. On a front-loader, seat the shocks piston-rod-up.
6. Test#
Run the diagnostic spin test, or a normal spin with a balanced load, and confirm smooth, quiet operation with no DC or UE code and no walking before you close the panels up.
Troubleshooting#
- DC or UE returns: the machine may be off-level, or a mounting socket is not fully seated — check both.
- Still vibrates hard: confirm all four are the correct part and oriented the same way; a single mismatched damper unbalances the set.
- New noise on spin: a damper end is not clipped in — reseat it.

When to call a professional#
Hand it off if the movement traces to the rear bearing or the spider arm rather than the dampers (those need full drum extraction and a press), if the machine is under Samsung warranty, or if you are not set up for the front-panel teardown.
Why all four, and why orientation matters#
The four dampers share the tub's load, so one tired unit forces the other three to overwork and wear out early — that is the whole reason for replacing them as a set rather than chasing the worst one. Orientation counts too: a shock fitted upside down or a rod hung at the wrong angle damps unevenly and can itself trigger the DC or UE code you were trying to clear. Take a photo before you pull the first one so the new set goes back at the same angles.## The unbalance code came back after new dampers. Now what?
New dampers cure the great majority of these complaints, and when they do not, it is almost never the parts.
Check the machine is standing level and locked. Fresh dampers reference the tub against a cabinet, and a cabinet that rocks on an uneven floor puts the tub out of true before a single load goes in. Level it across both axes and lock every foot's jam nut.
Give it two or three loads. New dampers are stiffer than the ones they replaced, and the machine's own balance behaviour changes with them — the first cycles can read as harsher rather than better simply because the tub is being held more firmly.
Confirm all four went in the same way round. Orientation matters on these, and one fitted inverted works against the other three rather than with them. It is also easy to do on the last one, when the light is bad and the first three set an expectation.
And re-check the load itself. A single heavy item still cannot balance against nothing, whatever the dampers are doing. If the code only appears on a lone comforter or a mat, nothing on this page was ever going to fix it.
