Step-by-Step#
1. Open the top and find the housing#
Unplug the dryer and remove the top panel — two rear screws or a pair of spring clips. The lint housing runs from the top screen opening down through the front-panel area toward the blower. Inspect it for cracked plastic, broken screen clips, warping, and gaps at the seam where it meets the blower duct, since any gap there lets lint escape into the cabinet.
2. Remove the old housing#
Disconnect any wiring routed along the housing — some models run the moisture-sensor leads there. Back out the two to four screws holding the housing to the front panel and frame, and release any snap tabs with the flat-blade screwdriver. Lift the housing out through the top opening.
3. Clear the cavity#
Before fitting the new part, vacuum the whole area: the blower connection point, the front-panel cavity, and anywhere lint has gathered. This is your best shot at the Frigidaire-notorious blower buildup, so reach in with a crevice tool and clean as deep as you can. Pay special attention to the elbow where the blower meets the exhaust duct, since compacted lint there quietly chokes airflow and drives the very heat that warped the housing in the first place. A few extra minutes with the crevice tool at that junction does more for drying performance than the housing swap alone, and it lowers the chance the new housing warps again.
4. Fit the new housing#
Set the new housing in the same orientation, drive its screws, and make sure every snap tab engages. Slide the lint screen in and out to confirm it moves smoothly and reaches a positive stop when fully seated — the screen has to sit flush, since any gap lets lint bypass again. Reconnect any moisture-sensor wiring you moved.
5. Test the airflow#
Insert the screen and check it clicks into the seated position, then refit the top panel. Run the dryer on air-dry for 5 minutes and confirm strong airflow at the exterior exhaust hood. With the dryer off, feel into the screen opening to be sure the channel is smooth with no sharp edges that could tear a screen.
