Why the valve stops sealing#
Each Profile burner valve is designed to close off gas at off. Years of heat harden the valve's internal grease and wear its seat, and eventually it cannot make a full seal. Because the sealing surfaces cannot be restored dependably, the valve is replaced with the correct part rather than adjusted.
Test the knob before condemning the valve#
Rule out the knob first — it is cheaper. Pull the knob and rotate the exposed valve stem to off with pliers. If the flame goes out, the knob's collar was stripped and it turned to off without closing the stem; a new knob fixes it. If the flame persists with the stem fully closed, the valve is the fault and needs replacing.
