GE Dishwasher C6: Fill System Timeout — Tub Did Not Reach Minimum Level
C6 means the control board opened the inlet valve and started the fill timer, but the float switch never reported adequate water level before timeout. GE dishwashers use a mechanical float switch for level detection — a physical float rises with water and triggers a microswitch at the target height.
Float Switch vs Pressure Switch: Why GE Chose Float
GE uses float switches while Bosch uses pressure switches. Float switches are mechanically simpler — no air tube to clog, no calibration drift. The trade-off: the float mechanism can physically stick from debris or mineral deposits around its pivot point.

Diagnosis Sequence
External Supply Check (2 Minutes)
Confirm the hot water shutoff valve under the sink is fully open. Test flow by disconnecting the supply hose at the dishwasher and running water into a bucket — need at least 1 gallon per 30 seconds.
Float Switch Check (3 Minutes)
Remove the lower rack, spray arm, and filter. Locate the float in the tub floor. Lift it up and release — it should move freely up and down with a distinct click. If stuck, clean around the float base with a damp cloth. Mineral deposits are the most common sticking cause in Sacramento's hard water.
Inlet Valve Test (5 Minutes)
Power off. Remove kick plate. Disconnect the inlet valve's wire connector. Measure solenoid resistance: 500-1500 ohms expected. OL = dead solenoid. Also check the inlet screen mesh for sediment.
Drain Siphon Check
The drain hose must have a high-loop (20+ inches) or air gap to prevent siphoning. Without it, water drains out as fast as it fills in. The tub never reaches the float switch trigger level.
SmartHQ Data for C6
Connected models provide fill time data, valve energization confirmation, and float switch state at timeout — narrowing diagnosis to supply-side or sensor-side without disassembly.
