GE Café Gas Range Uneven Flame — Causes & Fix
Uneven flames on a GE Café gas range usually trace to clogged ports on the high-output sealed burners or a cap that is not seated flat, and a yellow flame points to the air mix. Pull the sealed cap and head, clear every port with a pin, and reseat the cap dead level; that restores an even blue flame on most Café…
High-output burners need clean ports#
Café's sealed burners push a lot of flame, so a partially blocked port shows up quickly as an uneven ring — some ports roaring, others dead. Boil-over residue and grease are the usual blockage. Lift the cap and head, wash them, and run a straight pin through each port until the ring is clear and continuous. Avoid a toothpick, which can snap off and plug a port worse than before.
Seat the cap precisely#
A Café cap that sits even slightly off-center steers gas unevenly, giving a tall flame on one side and a weak one opposite. After cleaning, set the cap squarely on the head and confirm it does not rock. On a high-output burner this seating matters more than on a small simmer burner, so take the extra second to get it flat.

Yellow or lifting flames#
A steady blue flame with small yellow tips is correct. Pure yellow means the burner is short of air; a noisy flame that lifts off the ports means too much. Café burners are factory-set for their gas type, so if flames are yellow across the range after you have cleaned the ports, the issue is more likely gas type or supply than a shutter you should be adjusting yourself.
Gas type and supply#
If the range was set up for the wrong gas — natural versus propane — burners run yellow or weak. And weak flames on every burner at once suggest low supply: verify the shutoff is fully open and the connector behind the range is not pinched. These checks separate a cooktop fault from a supply problem.

Even flames for the cooking season#
Uneven flames cook unevenly and can soot your cookware, so restoring a clean blue burn is worth doing before the busy cooking weeks. A port clean and a careful reseat handles most Café cases. If flames stay yellow after cleaning, or the range may be set for the wrong gas, book an EasyBear technician and we will bring Café burner parts and check the setup.
