Cap seating and burner seal#
For a mild odor you can trace, start at the burner. A Gaggenau sealed cap that is not sitting flat lets a little raw gas escape at the edge before it burns, giving a persistent smell while cooking. Lift the cap and head, clean the seat, and set the cap back precisely level. If the smell is confined to one burner while lit, a poorly seated cap or a worn burner seal is the usual reason.
Connections and the flame-failure device#
Gaggenau burners include a flame-failure thermocouple that cuts gas if it senses no flame, so a leak with the burners off more often traces to the supply side — the flexible connector, a fitting behind the range, or the regulator. A technician will leak-test each joint with solution and check that the flame-failure device is closing properly. This is gas-line work, not a DIY clean.
