Why a Gaggenau clicks when it shouldn't#
Gaggenau's sealed burners are precise pieces, and the ignition includes both a spark electrode and a flame-failure thermocouple that shuts gas off if it never senses a flame. The spark is only supposed to fire until the burner catches. When it keeps ticking, one of two things is happening: the spark is grounding to a wet or crooked cap instead of the gas, or the flame-sense leg is not telling the control the burner is lit, so the electrode keeps pulsing to try again.
Moisture is the first suspect#
The tight tolerances that make a Gaggenau burner so even also trap water. After cooking or cleaning, moisture sits in the burner well and shorts the spark to the cap, and the electrode clicks on and on. Lift the sealed cap and head, dry every surface with a soft towel, and let the ceramic electrode air out for several minutes. Seat the machined cap precisely#
Because the cap is machined to fit exactly, even a slight tilt lets the spark find metal before gas. Set the head and cap back into their locating features and confirm the cap sits level and does not rock. On these burners a reseat alone often stops a click that seemed like an electrical failure.
When the flame-sense is at fault#
If the burner is clean, dry, and seated and still clicks steadily while clearly burning, the flame-failure thermocouple or its connection may be failing to confirm the flame. A weak or dirty sense tip reads no flame and the control keeps commanding spark. That is a component and gas-safety job rather than a cleaning, and it is the point to hand the range to a technician.
