Self-clean is the usual reason#
Frigidaire ovens, built on the Electrolux platform, lock the door automatically for the self-clean cycle, which runs the cavity far hotter than baking. That lock is a safety feature and it stays engaged until the oven cools back down — often around an hour after the cycle ends. If your door locked after you started self-clean, the fix is usually just patience while it cools past its release temperature.
Force a cool-down#
Press cancel or clear to stop the cycle, then leave the oven closed and let it cool on its own; opening a window nearby speeds the room's heat away but do not try to pry the door. Once the cavity has dropped well below cleaning heat, the latch should release and the door will open normally. Rushing it — pulling on a locked door — can bend the latch or the door.

When cooling doesn't release it#
If the oven is fully cool and the door is still locked, the motorized latch or its position switch has likely failed mid-cycle, leaving the lock engaged. The latch motor drives a cam that throws the lock bolt, and if the motor stalls or the switch misreads the door's position, the control never commands it to open. That is a latch-assembly repair.
Don't confuse it with a stuck cycle#
Sometimes the door is fine but the control thinks a cycle is still running and keeps the lock on. A power reset — switch the oven off at the breaker for a minute, then back on — can clear a control that has hung, after which the lock releases. If it re-locks on its own, the control or latch needs service.
