Electrolux/Kenmore Washer lid: Lid Switch Not Detecting Closure
Top-Load Specific
The lid code appears exclusively on top-load Kenmore models manufactured by Electrolux. Front-load models use dL/E41 for door lock issues. The lid switch is a magnetic or mechanical sensor that confirms the lid is closed before allowing spin or agitation.

Causes
Lid not fully closed. Lid switch failed (mechanical wear or magnetic sensor drift). Switch wiring broken. Switch actuator (magnet on lid or tab) damaged.
Diagnosis
- Close the lid firmly. Listen for a click if mechanical switch, or verify the magnet on the lid aligns with the switch on the cabinet.
- If the lid clicks closed but the code persists: the switch has failed. Unplug. Test switch continuity: should show zero ohms when lid is closed.
- Check the switch wiring. The wire harness passes through a lid hinge area where repeated opening can break conductors.
