Electrolux Oven Smoking: Causes & Fix
Nearly all Electrolux oven smoke traces to one of three places, and locating it is the whole diagnosis. Grease baking off the concealed bottom element is the usual source; splatter on the PerfectConvect rear element smokes only in convection; and a brand-new oven smokes from factory coatings for its first few uses.…
The concealed bottom element#
Electrolux tucks the bake element under the oven floor, so spills land on the floor panel above it and smoke the moment the oven preheats. This is where most "why is my oven smoking" calls end. Lift the floor panel and wipe it down with a non-abrasive cleaner, getting into the corners where drips pool. Because the element is hidden, the smoke can look mysterious until you realize it's just last week's roast on the panel above it.
The PerfectConvect rear element#
Here's the tell that points away from the floor: if the smoke shows up mainly in convection modes, look at the rear ring element behind the back panel. Splatter thrown toward the back of the cavity settles on that ring and burns off when convection fires it, so an oven that bakes clean but smokes on convection is pointing you straight at the rear element rather than the floor.

A brand-new oven#
A new Electrolux smokes from protective factory coatings during its first two or three uses. Run an empty burn-off with the kitchen ventilated and the haze clears on its own — no repair, just break-in.
The smoke that isn't grease#
If the smoke smells electrical and sharp, or you catch a whiff with a bit of a chemical edge and see any flicker from an element, that isn't food. A cracked or arcing element has to come out of service immediately — cut power at the breaker and don't run the oven, because arcing only spreads. For baked-on grime that won't wipe away, the self-clean cycle turns residue to ash; run it with ventilation on.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Gas ovens involve live gas lines — a loose connection creates explosion and carbon monoxide risk. Electric ovens run on 240V circuits. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Before the holidays#
Ovens do their longest, hottest work over the holidays, and a floor panel carrying a season of drips will smoke the instant you preheat for a crowd. Clean the floor and the rear element before the cooking starts, and burn off a new oven ahead of time. If the smoke smells electrical or won't clear after a real clean, book a visit before the big day.
