An Electrolux dryer that tumbles but won't heat is usually a burned-out main heating element, a tripped high-limit thermostat, or a restricted vent — and that last one is the hidden root cause behind most of the others. Error E64 means an open heating circuit; E63 means insufficient heat. One quirk: if only Perfect Steam fails while normal drying works, that's a separate element entirely.
The Vent Is the Usual Root Cause#
Electrolux dryers share the Frigidaire mechanical heating platform and add Perfect Steam and Predictive Dry on top, but the thing that quietly kills their heat is airflow. A restricted exhaust vent makes the element run hotter than designed, which trips the high-limit thermostat and, over time, burns out the element itself — so a no-heat dryer is often really a vent problem wearing a component-failure mask. Predictive Dry models are especially sensitive because their moisture sensors depend on proper airflow to read correctly. That's why the fix so often starts at the duct, not the element.

The Causes, Most Common First#
Main heating element (about 30%)#
The element, in its rectangular Electrolux housing, opens with age or from running too hot behind a clogged vent, and once open it makes no heat while the drum still turns. Test it for continuity — a healthy element reads about 10 to 20 ohms, and an open reading means it's done. It's the same form factor as Frigidaire's, with a typical eight-to-twelve-year life that a restricted vent cuts short. An open element is exactly what E64 flags.
High-limit thermostat (about 25%)#
This safety thermostat sits in the heating circuit only, so when it trips the dryer keeps tumbling but produces no heat — a telltale pattern. It trips because of overheating, and overheating comes from restricted airflow, so a tripped high-limit is another finger pointing at the vent. Test it for continuity: open means tripped, and you must clear the airflow restriction or the replacement will trip again.
Exhaust vent restriction (about 20%)#
Named directly as its own cause because it's the origin of most thermal failures here. A blocked duct traps heat, cooks the element and thermostat, and confuses the moisture sensors. Clean the entire run from the dryer to the exterior cap, confirm the flap outside opens when the dryer runs, and don't consider a heating repair finished until the air moves freely.
Perfect Steam element (about 15%)#
Perfect Steam has its own small element that heats water injected into the drum, and it can fail on its own. When it does, steam cycles stop making steam but ordinary drying heats and works normally — so this is not a critical failure and not the cause of a fully cold dryer. If your clothes dry fine but the steam feature is dead, this separate element is the culprit, and the repair can wait for your convenience.
Moisture sensor and Predictive Dry (about 10%)#
Dryer-sheet residue coats the moisture sensor bars and skews their readings, and on Predictive Dry models a badly misread signal can lead the board to limit heat output. Clean the sensor bars with rubbing alcohol, and replace them if they're physically damaged rather than just filmed.
A Quick Order of Attack#
Read any code first — E64 sends you to an open heating circuit, E63 to insufficient heat. Then check the vent, always, because it underlies most of these failures. Meter the element for its 10-to-20-ohm range and the high-limit thermostat for continuity. If normal drying works and only steam is missing, relax — that's the separate Perfect Steam element and a non-urgent fix. Clearing the vent and confirming the exterior flap opens is the single most valuable step, since it both restores heat and keeps the replaced parts from failing all over again. Skip that step and you'll be buying a second element within a year, so treat the duct as part of the repair rather than an afterthought.
