What this Bosch vs Whirlpool comparison is based on#
Two federal complaint records are counted here: 78 CPSC SaferProducts incident reports naming a component on a Bosch oven between 2011 and 2026, and 635 doing the same for a Whirlpool oven over the same years. A share on this page is always a share of one of those two totals, never of ovens made or sold.
A comparison that mostly comes back level#
Most brand-versus-brand pages are built on a difference. This one has one row that separates the two records and three that do not, and the honest version of the page says so first.
The heating element is named in 4% of the reports on both sides. The wiring or power cord is at 3% on both. The igniter differs by a single point, 4% of the Whirlpool reports against 3% of the Bosch ones — two filings against 23, which is the kind of gap the table marks as noise rather than as a result. Only the control board separates them, at 9% of the Bosch record against 6% of the Whirlpool one.
What the one gap costs to believe#
Three points sounds firm until it is converted back into filings. Bosch's 9% is seven reports out of 78; Whirlpool's 6% is 41 out of 635. The Whirlpool figure would survive a few reclassified submissions without moving. The Bosch figure would not: two reports moving in or out shift that share by more than 2 points, which is most of the gap.
So the defensible statement is narrow. The control board leads both records; it leads the Bosch record by more; and the margin sits inside the range that a corpus of 78 can produce by chance. A page that turned that into a claim about how Bosch builds control boards would be reading far past its own data.
What a level result is actually good for#
A null result still does work. It rules out the shortcut a shopper is normally offered — that one of these brands concentrates its trouble somewhere the other does not — and it collapses two shortlists into one. If either brand's oven is on the bench, the components that dominate both records are the same three: the control board first, then the heating element and the igniter, then the wiring.
It also sets the scale for the rest of the page. Nothing in either column rises above 9%, so an oven's reported incidents are spread thin compared with an appliance whose record has a dominant part. Whirlpool's column runs a little deeper — a thermostat or sensor row at 1%, seven filings, and a drive belt and a motor at 0% on one filing each — but those are tail entries, not a second profile.
