Smart ranges combine a smart oven and a smart cooktop into one unit — doubling both the smart features and the smart-specific failure points. Samsung NE63A6711SS, GE Profile PGS930, LG LSIL6336F, and KitchenAid KFID500E are the most common smart ranges we service.
Smart Range Component Breakdown#
Smart ranges include every smart component from both oven and cooktop categories plus range-specific additions:
**Full-Color LCD Touchscreen ** Samsung NE63A smart ranges use a 5.8-inch LCD (DG94-04254A). GE Profile uses a 4.3-inch touchscreen (WB27X35392). These are larger and more expensive than traditional range keypads. The touchscreen sits directly above the cooktop, exposing it to steam, grease splatter, and heat radiation from the burners below.
Dual Wi-Fi System (total parts) Some smart ranges use two Wi-Fi modules — one for the oven cavity functions and one for cooktop functions. Samsung NE63A uses a single integrated module. GE Profile PGS930 (dual-fuel) uses separate modules for the gas cooktop controller and electric oven controller.
**Air Fry Smart Sensor ** Samsung and GE smart ranges with air fry capability include an additional temperature sensor and fan speed controller for the air fry mode, managed through the app. The air fry sensor (Samsung DG32-00054A) monitors basket temperature separately from the main oven cavity.

The Grease and Steam Problem#
Smart range touchscreens are positioned directly above the cooking surface. Steam from boiling water, grease splatter from pan-frying, and heat radiation from gas burners all hit the touchscreen. Traditional membrane keypads handle this environment well — they are sealed plastic with no seams. LCD touchscreens have edge seals that can fail, allowing moisture ingress that causes ghost touches, dead zones, or complete failure.
Mitigation: Samsung added a water-resistant seal (IP rating improvement) starting with the 2024 NE63A models. GE Profile uses a recessed touchscreen with a raised bezel to redirect splatter. Despite these improvements, touchscreen failure on smart ranges is approximately 2x higher than on smart wall ovens (which are not above a cooking surface).
Smart ranges have the highest repair cost premium of any smart appliance category because they combine oven and cooktop smart components in one unit, with the added environmental stress of a touchscreen above active burners.
Buy smart if: you want a single connected cooking appliance with remote preheat, guided cooking, and air fry app integration.
Buy traditional + separate smart oven if: you want smart cooking features with lower repair risk. A traditional range with a separate smart wall oven avoids the touchscreen-above-burners problem entirely.
