Maytag MER7700 Electric Range — Issues & Fixes
The most common Maytag MER7700 fault is a burned-out bake element — about 20% of repairs — with no heat from below and often a visible break in the element.
The MER7700 is a 6.2 cu. ft. electric range with a glass cooktop, True Convection, and Maytag's Precision Cooking. Below are the covered models, the recurring problems, the codes, and a repair-or-replace line.

Common problems for this model#
| Rank | Failure | Share of repairs |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bake element burns out — no bottom heat, visible break | 20% |
| 2 | Glass cooktop cracks — from impact or thermal stress | 16% |
| 3 | Convection fan bearings wear — rattling or vibrating in convection | 14% |
| 4 | Temperature sensor drifts — oven runs off-temperature | 10% |
| 5 | Self-clean door lock jams — stuck locked or will not lock | 8% |
Error codes#
- Error F1 — stuck key or control fault
- Error F3 E2 — temperature sensor
For an unlisted code, unplug or trip the breaker for 60 seconds, then restore power; a returning code needs a diagnosis.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Gas ovens involve live gas lines — a loose connection creates explosion and carbon monoxide risk. Electric ovens run on 240V circuits. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Recall status#
There are no active recalls on the Maytag MER7700 series as of 2026-05-28. Check your model against the Consumer Product Safety Commission list at cpsc.gov periodically.
Repair or replace?#
For the MER7700: under 10 years old with a repair below 50% of a comparable new range, repair. After 10 years, weigh it against the total repair history before spending more. The common bake-element and sensor repairs are inexpensive, so it stays in repair territory for most of its life.
The Real Cost of DIY
Average DIY attempt: $150-400 in tools you may use once, plus the risk of further damage. Our diagnostic visit costs $0 — we find the problem and give you an honest quote.

Before you call#
Confirm both poles of the 240V breaker are ON. For an F3, try a 2-minute power reset before assuming the sensor is dead, and for a temperature complaint, verify with an oven thermometer before recalibrating. For a stuck self-clean lock, wait 3-plus hours for the oven to cool, then press Cancel — never force a locked door. And do not use the range if the glass cooktop is cracked.
Everyday use#
The Speed Heat element reaches temperature faster than the others — use it for boiling and searing — and set True Convection about 25 degrees below conventional recipes. Limit self-clean to two or three cycles a year, never slide pots across the glass, and wipe spills promptly before they bake on and stain.
Don't Void Your Warranty
Opening your appliance yourself may void the manufacturer warranty. Our repair comes with a 90-day guarantee, and we document everything for warranty compliance.

FAQ#
What is Precision Cooking on the MER7700?#
Precision Cooking is Maytag's temperature-management system that holds a tight band around the set point using the sensor and control board, for more consistent baking and roasting. If the temperature sensor fails, Precision Cooking loses its edge until the sensor is replaced.
What is the Speed Heat element?#
Speed Heat is a high-wattage surface element that heats roughly 20% faster than a standard element, usually the front-right burner for everyday cooking. It draws more power, but a standard 240V 50A range circuit handles it fine.
Can I calibrate the oven temperature myself?#
Yes — hold Bake to show the current offset (usually 0F), adjust in 5F steps up to plus or minus 35F, then press Start and verify at 350F with a thermometer. If you need more than 35F of correction, the temperature sensor needs replacing rather than calibration.
