Lint, the thermal fuse, and the element#
The thermal fuse on the exhaust housing behind the rear panel is a one-time safety device that opens permanently when exhaust temperature exceeds a safe limit — usually because vent restriction has let heat build up, and that overheating scorches nearby lint into a burning smell.
