What this Kenmore vs Whirlpool comparison is based on#
The differences on this page sort themselves into two themes. Whirlpool's record leads on the control board, the wiring or power cord and the drain pump or hose; Kenmore's leads on the lint trap or vent and the motor. Neither record carries the table outright, and the split is tidy enough to be worth describing on its own terms.
The sources are CPSC SaferProducts incident reports covering 2011 to 2026 — 208 naming a Kenmore washer, 115 naming a Whirlpool one. Both are records of complaints somebody chose to file. No public source states how many washers of either brand exist, so the shares here cannot be turned into rates.
Whirlpool's three rows#
The control board is named in 14% of the Whirlpool reports against 9% of the Kenmore ones — 16 filings against 18, a 5-point gap. The drain pump or hose is at 5% against 0%, on 6 filings against 1. The wiring or power cord is at 8% against 4%, on 9 filings against 9.
Only one of those three survives being read in documents. The drain pump row does: 6 Whirlpool filings against 1, in a corpus roughly half the size, which is a direction no denominator produces. The other two do not. The control board row has more Kenmore documents behind the smaller share, and the wiring row has exactly the same number of documents on each side.
Kenmore's two rows#
The lint trap or vent is at 7% of the Kenmore reports against 5% of the Whirlpool ones, on 14 filings against 6. The motor is at 4% against 2%, on 8 filings against 2.
