How to Diagnose and Replace a GE Oven Selector

A selector switch that clicks through positions without engaging a mode, heats in the wrong mode, or leaves one function dead is usually worn internally. But the same symptoms appear when the component the switch selects has failed — so GE diagnosis is really about proving which link in the chain is broken.
Before You Start#
- Tools: a #2 Phillips, a 1/4" hex driver, a nut-driver set (1/4" and 5/16"), an igniter wrench, and a multimeter.
- Likely parts (match to your model): bake element WB44T10011, sealed-burner igniter WB13K21, convection fan motor WB26X10210, or oven temperature sensor WB21X5301.
- Time and level: 30-45 minutes, intermediate.
- Safety: turn off the breaker on electric models; on gas, close the supply valve behind the range and bubble-test with soapy water. If you smell gas, stop and ventilate.

Prove Which Part the Switch Feeds#
- Gas burner will not light while others do: watch the igniter — a healthy one glows bright within 40 seconds and opens the safety valve as it draws 3.2-3.6 amps. A weak igniter still glowing dim past 60 seconds never opens the valve; replace WB13K21 for that burner.
- Oven bakes unevenly: set bake to 350�F and watch the floor element. A good WB44T10011 glows uniformly within 2-3 minutes; dark spots, blisters or a burn-through mean it has failed — cut power at once.
- Convection results are poor: in convection mode, check the rear fan through its cover. A stalled fan points to motor WB26X10210, not the switch.
- Temperature overshoots or undershoots: with the oven cold, meter the sensor — WB21X5301 should read about 1080-1090 ohms at 70�F. A wildly different reading means the sensor, not the switch.
- All downstream parts test good: the selector switch is the culprit. Photograph its numbered terminals, transfer the wires to the new switch one at a time, and match the shaft flat so Off lands correctly.
Troubleshooting#
- Slow preheat: GE runs bake and broil together during preheat, so test the broil element too before blaming the switch.
- Continuous igniter clicking, no flame: the spark module works but gas is not arriving — check the supply valve behind the range, not the selector switch.
- F3 or F4 in SmartHQ: a temperature-sensor circuit fault; confirm the WB21X5301 sensor before replacing the more expensive control board.
