Frigidaire Washer Inlet Valve: Causes & Fix
Frigidaire uses a dual-solenoid inlet valve with separate hot and cold circuits, mounted at the rear where the external fill hoses connect, and it fails two distinct ways. Allow 30-45 minutes with a Phillips #2, a Torx T15 for inner panels on some models, needle-nose pliers, a multimeter, a bucket and towels.
Getting to it#
Shut both supply valves at the wall, unplug, and pull the machine out. Put the bucket behind it, disconnect both fill hoses at the valve, let the residual water drain, and note which is hot and which is cold.
Front-load EFLS: remove the 3 Phillips screws at the rear edge of the top panel, slide it back about an inch and lift it off. The valve is at the upper rear.
Top-load FFTW: pop the end caps off the control console, remove the screw at each end and flip the console back on its hinges, then take out the top panel screws and lift the panel away.

Testing both solenoids#
Unplug each solenoid's wire connector and measure resistance across it.

But a clean reading does not clear the valve, and this is where people go wrong. Mechanical failure leaves both coils measuring perfectly while the worn diaphragm passes water regardless. So if the washer overfills, or water keeps entering after the cycle stops, the valve has failed mechanically whatever the meter says. Confirm by unplugging the machine mid-fill — water still flowing with no power can only be coming through a stuck valve, and that needs replacing before it floods something.
Also worth separating out: slow filling with no error code. That is usually the mesh screens at the valve inlets, clogged with mineral deposits. Pull the fill hoses, extract the screens, clean or replace them. Only if flow is still slow is the diaphragm itself partly blocked.
The swap#
- Photograph every connection before anything comes off.
- Disconnect the solenoid wire connectors.
- Release the spring clamps on the internal fill hoses and pull them off the valve outlets. Front-loaders normally have 2, routing water to the dispenser drawer.
- Remove the 2 mounting screws holding the valve to the rear frame — Phillips on most models, Torx T15 on Gallery models.
- Pull the assembly out, noting orientation: the hot and cold inlets must line up with the external hose connections.
- Fit the new valve the same way round and secure it.
- Reconnect the internal hoses, slide the clamps over, and push the solenoid connectors home until they click.
- Reconnect the external hoses, hot left and cold right. Hand-tighten plus a quarter turn — these plastic threads strip easily.
Turn the water on and check for leaks before the panel goes back, then run a Normal cycle and confirm it fills at the correct temperature and stays dry underneath.
One thing you cannot do: replace a single solenoid. The coils are integrated into the valve body and are not sold separately.

Parts, and the Electrolux angle#
Frigidaire is manufactured by Electrolux and the two share a great deal internally. Inlet valve numbers frequently cross over — Frigidaire 137353500 is the same part as Electrolux 137353500 — and the Electrolux-branded box often runs 10-15% cheaper from third-party suppliers. Match by model number rather than brand, since numbers vary across series: most EFLS front-loaders take 137353500, FFTW top-loaders generally 137108100.
Reading the codes#
E11 is the fill timeout — the valve is not opening, or there is no water supply. E13 flags a detected leak on models with the sensor. E21 is a drain timeout, which is not valve-related but is Frigidaire's most common code and worth recognising so you do not chase the wrong part.
On IQ-Touch models you can enter diagnostic mode by holding Options and Pause/Cancel together for 3 seconds, then selecting the fill test — the machine runs each solenoid for 15 seconds so you can confirm both activate.
