How to Replace Bosch Drip Pans, Grates, and Caps

Map your burners first#

Bosch cooktops use a non-symmetrical layout — each burner is a different size, typically a large rapid burner, a medium semi-rapid, a small auxiliary, and on some 800 series a dual-ring wok burner. Because each drip pan matches a specific diameter and drain-channel orientation, note which position each part came from before you pull anything.

Lift the parts off in order#

1. With the cooktop cool, lift each cast-iron grate straight up off its posts — Bosch grates are heavy, so handle them so they do not chip the enamel.
2. Lift each burner cap off; they sit by gravity, not fasteners.
3. Lift the flame spreader (the burner crown) off its base; on dual-ring wok burners there are two concentric caps.
4. Lift out the drip pan from its recess — on electric models, prop the coil element up first and lift the bowl from underneath.

Drop the new parts in#

Set each new drip pan into the matching recess with the drain hole (or the element-socket cutout on electric models) oriented the one way it fits. Place the flame spreader on the base so it self-centers on the igniter and thermocouple posts and sits flat with no rock. Add the cap, rotating it until its alignment flat or notch drops it flush — a seated cap does not wobble. On dual-ring burners the inner cap goes on first, then the outer ring around it.

Refit the grates and test#

Set the grates back on their posts and check that every rubber bumper foot is present, since a missing bumper lets a grate slide and scratch the surface. Light each burner briefly: the flame should be even and blue all the way around with the new spreader and cap seated. If a flame is lopsided, the cap is misaligned or the spreader is not flat — reseat and retest.
