What this GE vs LG comparison is based on#
Two federal complaint records are counted on this page: 265 CPSC SaferProducts incident reports naming a component on a GE refrigerator between 2011 and 2026, and 192 doing the same for an LG refrigerator over the same window. Each share belongs to its own column's total. Neither total counts refrigerators sold or in service.
Both records are about ice, but only one says so twice#
The ice maker leads both columns — 24% of the GE reports, 64 filings, and 13% of the LG ones, 24 filings. That is the largest gap on the page at 11 points, and it is the only row where both sides rest on a substantial count.
What happens next is where the two records part company. LG's column keeps describing the water side of the appliance: the water valve or line takes 3% of its reports, six filings. GE's water valve row is a single report out of 265.
So the same subject is distributed differently. On the LG side, complaints about ice and water resolve into two named components. On the GE side, they resolve into one, and the second is effectively absent. That is a difference in how the reports were written and classified as much as anything mechanical, but it is a real difference in what each record can tell a reader.
